About the event
Everything you need to know to make this your best BBK event ever!
What to bring - blankets/chairs, umbrellas [screen tents are okay but no camping tents], sunscreen, towels, hat to protect from sun, outdoor toys for little ones, water phone protector, snacks/food, etc. Wear water-appropriate clothing and shoes (crocs, flip flops, etc) that you don't mind getting wet (gym shoes are not the best gear to kayak in). Â Don't forget to bring patience as it will likely be a wait time for kayaks. If you have a watercraft please feel free to bring it for yourself (you will want to store it away from the other community kayaks unless you are kind enough to share)
.
Food - Don't forget to purchase a Meal Ticket for vegan & meat options for hamburgers/sausages, salad, fruit, and chips. [We aim to limit waste so please bring reusable drink containers and not bottled water. We will have a water container to refill your bottles ]
Kayaking - every person using any watercraft provided by Black to the Land must wear a provided lifevest (no exception). Rides will be 45 mins. You are free to go again but only after everyone has had an opportunity to get on the water.
Parking - if the main parking fills up in one lot, there is an additional parking lot you can walk through a very small trail to get to the event. We will have signs to guide you. Follow the music and happy voices! Absolutely no parking in areas (on the side of the road or grass) that are not marked for parking. They will be checking regularly and ticketing!
Photos/Videos - by attending this event, you acknowledge that we will be taking photos /videos that will be shared publicly (websites, social media, flyers, etc). Don't worry we always make sure we post the best pictures of our guests!
Liability - a liability form must be signed by every participant kayaking.
FAQ
I've never kayaked, will there be someone to help me?
Yes, we will have instructors providing tips on how to navigate/paddle and where to go.
I can't swim, can I still kayak?
While it's better to know how to swim, it isn't a prerequisite to kayaking. This is why we require lifevest for all guests. We will have safety people and trained staff on the water making sure everyone is safe. Â There is also a shallow area near the "beach" site that is perfect for those who aren't ready to paddle far from the shore.
What age is suitable for kayaking?
Babies ages 0 to 15 months are not ideal to put in a kayak with someone, however, above that to 6 years of age, young kids must ride with parents in a tandem kayak or a single kayak sitting in front of the parent. For kids 7 and up in a single kayak, they must be confident swimmers. Only a parent/guardian can make that call, so it's up to you to ensure their safety. You are responsible for your children and must supervise them at all times. Kids under 15 must be accompanied by their parent/guardian at all times on the water (no exceptions). We want to keep everyone safe!
*Tickets are non-refundable unless this event is canceled by Black to the Land due to severe weather or unexpected reasons.
